1. Eco Plant tour
Get to know the plants on your own doorstep! Team up with experienced and knowledgeable local ecological tour guides and scientists who will show you the wonder and diversity of our native plants in a range of habitats. Please bring rain gear and wear sturdy walking shoes.

Venue:  Tramore strand and sand dunes. Meet at the lifeguard hut on the prom.

2. Botanical drawing and macrophotography of flowers class.
Learn the principals of botanical drawing and macro-photography of flowers from experienced artists and photographers. Artists materials and flowers will be provided but photographers should bring their own camera equipment.

Burrenbeo are holding this Fascination of Plants day event in conjunction with this year's Burren in Bloom festival (May 4th–June 2nd) http://www.burreninbloom.com/#. The event will be a mixture of games and activities introducing children to the fascinating plant world.

 Gerry Daly is coming to Cois na hAbhann Garden Centre in Camolin, Co. Wexford for a questions and answer session on plants. The event is open to the public and we would encourage anyone with problem plants to bring them along on the day for helpful hints.

1. Fascinating Flora National Photograph competition 

Submission Date: May 10th
Eligible photos:
  • Plants (including mosses, ferns, gymnosperms and flowering plants), seaweeds and other algae
  • May be of alien, non-native, naturalised, or native plant species and may be taken in Ireland or abroad
  • May be of the whole or part of the plant e.g. flowers, cones, seeds, fruits, berries, leaves, bark, etc 
Categories are based on age group:
  • (1) 0-9 years
  •  (2) 10-18 years
  • (3) 18+ years
  • If you enter within category 1 or 2 you must include your date of birth with your submission
  • There will be a winner and a runner up in each of the 3 categories. 
  • Prizes are tickets to Bloom http://bloominthepark.com  
Submission:
  • E-mail a maximum of 2 photographs per entrant to fascinatingplants@nuigalway.ie 
  • Include 'Plant Photo' as the e-mail subject
  • Include image title(s), your contact details, and date of birth (if under 18) 
  • Deadline May 10th 2013

2. Children's art workshop with Gordon D'Arcy.

Gordon D’Arcy will conduct a participatory art workshop based on plants, nature and their connectedness for the Fascination of Plants Day. Gordon D’Arcy (http://www.gordondarcynature.com) is an environmentalist working in art and illustration, writing, education, fieldwork and consultancy. He holds a Masers in Environmental Science from Trinity College Dublin and has been working as a freelance environmental artist, author and educator since 1985. He  has visited hundreds of primary schools teaching nature through art and publishedNarture’, a nature art manual for teachers and parents, in 2010.

Places: 35 (allocated on a first come, first served basis)
Aimed at children (8–11 years old). Children must be accompanied by a parent/guardian.
